Black Tie Preferred

BLACK TIE PREFERRED

Last week we talked about grooms in white. But what does it mean when a wedding invitation says “Black tie preferred”?

When the word “preferred” accompanies “black tie,” on a wedding invitation, the hosts are really saying that black tie (meaning a tuxedo for men) is optional.  As New Jersey wedding officiants, we have seen many beautiful wedding ceremonies where it was perfectly acceptable and stylish for the men to wear either dark suits or tuxedos, and for women guests to wear cocktail attire.
